VA BEACH - From Williamsburg to the Oceanfront, the closure this weekend of I-64 East and southbound lanes on the James River Bridge are promising to be frustrating for drivers, many who may not be familiar with alternate routes.

Maria Shaffer wishes it wasn't this weekend - with the NAS Oceana Air Show and the opening of Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

"It discourages me. I live at Oceana so I will go to the air show, but if I had to cross the water and go through the Monitor-Merrimac, there's no way," she said.

Busch Gardens officials admit the closures could impact the park’s attendance, but they see the bigger picture.

"The tunnel and bridge are vital to the health of Hampton Roads’ economy so it’s important they receive the maintenance necessary to ensure they continue to serve the Hampton Roads community," said spokesman Kevin Crossett.

On the Oceana Air Show Website, there's a notice on the homepage reminding people coming from the Peninsula of the closures.

The closings begin at 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 14. The spans will reopen by 5:00 a.m. Monday.
