HAMPTON ROADS -- Getting around Hampton Roads on Friday afternoon proved to be more of a challenge than usual.

VDOT reported heavy congestion at all water crossings.

By 3:45 p.m., the Midtown Tunnel remained closed because of a disabled vehicle.  Cars lined Brambleton.  Traffic was being redirected to the Downtown Tunnel which had a four mile backup.

Traffic in both directions at the HRBT was also heavy after an earlier accident, and the MMMBT traffic was backed up as well because of an accident.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., VDOT opened the HOV reversible roadways to all traffic because of an accident on I-64 eastbound at Northampton Boulevard.

VDOT encourages everyone to drive cautiously and be ready for congestion.
