BALTIMORE (AP) — There is a chance that Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome might abandon his Triple Crown bid. Officials for the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown, have not in the past allowed horses to wear a nasal strip. California Chrome trainer Art Sherman made no threats about the chance of the horse passing on a chance to become horse racing's 12th Triple Crown winner, but he suggested it was a possibility.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The opening game of the NBA's Eastern Conference final is being played this afternoon in Indianapolis. The Pacers are playing host to the Miami Heat in a rematch of last year's conference finale. The Heat won that series in seven games and eventually won the NBA championship.
CHICAGO (AP) — Game 1 for the Kings and Blackhawks in the NHL's Western Conference final is this afternoon in Chicago. These two teams met in the Western final last year with the Blackhawks coming out on top in five games.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Pitcher Gio Gonzalez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals with inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The lefty is 3-4 after going 32-16 during his first two seasons with the Nationals.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Don Meyer, one of the winningest coaches in college basketball, has died at the age of 69. Meyer led his teams into the playoffs 19 times and compiled a 923-324 during his 38-year career, most of which he spent at Lipscomb in Tennessee and Northern State in South Dakota.
