ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Former Northern State University men's basketball coach Don Meyer is having surgery Wednesday to implant a heart pacemaker.
University officials tell the American News (http://bit.ly/Oi5am2 ) that Meyer had heart problems Sunday night, leading to the decision. Last week, doctors replaced three of Meyer's heart valves with mechanical ones and repaired a hole in his heart.
Meyer has been battling cancer since it was discovered following a 2008 car accident that cost him part of his left leg.
Meyer retired from coaching in 2010 with an NCAA record 923 victories.
