Would you say Paul Wheeler had an immediate impact at Lafayette? He first came on the job in 2001. The Rams went on to win the state football championship that first season. His second year they made it back to the championship game but came up just short.

That championship would be just one of the highlights of a coaching career that has spanned 30 years. He also put together state championships at Rustburg High in 1990 and 1993. All this after a solid football background as a player at Marshall University. He graduated from there in 1980.

Wheeler's job this year will be to get his Rams to bounce back from their first losing season in 12 years. They got the season off to a good start with a win over Brunswick County. We'll found out just how good they are in 2009 when they play Poquoson this Friday night. Catch our complete interview with Coach Wheeler in the video section of HS Gametime.
