NORFOLK – The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Norfolk in march, but one local school got an early visit from the world-famous team.

Quake Milum is the newest Globetrotter. He paid a visit to Suburban Park Elementary School and Ocean Air Elementary School on Friday, wowing students with his basketball skills.

"You know when you come to our show, you don't remember the score. You don't remember how many points somebody scored. You remember the comedy, the fun, the crowd participation," Milum said.

And while Milum's visit provided plenty of laughs, the students learned something invaluable.

“It sets an example as a role model that our students can look up to and have some dreams and help them to set their goals for their future," principal Dr. Lawrence Taylor said.

The school’s guidance counselor says it’s ideal exposure for these youngsters.

"One of the things that I do is expose them to as much positive as possible,” said Dr. Merlyn Blackwood. “I let them know that there is much more outside their world.  Your circumstances will never determine your destiny.  It is up to you."

The Harlem Globetrotters will be at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on March 3 and 4.
