RALEIGH, NC- At halftime, it looked like a historic #16 seed over #1 upset was possible. Coastal Carolina led 35-30 and Virginia's vaunted defense was porous.

ACC coach of the year Tony Bennett was worried about his team. "I don't know if they thought it would come easy of if they were a little nervious,".

However, after halftime, UVa tightened up on the defensive end of the court and took the lead with a 12-5 run early in the half.

Coastal Carolina tied the game at 47 with 8:47 to go, but never could retake the lead.

Virginia's Evan Nolte hit two key three-pointers in a late 'Hoos run. Anthony Gill led Virginia in scoring with 17.

In the victorious locker room, Gill said what many Cavalier fans were feeling. "Survive and advance, it was ugly, but we'll take it."

"I knew we needed to settle ourselves, become more composed, but more tenacious in the same way," said coach Bennett.

The Cavaliers will play Memphis on Sunday for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden.
