It wasn't even close. In what was a sign of their entire run during this year's post season, the Poquoson Islanders made easy work of Potomac in the Group AA state finals by winning 9-1. The win gave them their second straight state title. Senior left-hander Kyle Crockett capped off his remarkable career by pitching a complete-game two-hitter, striking out eight. Poquoson, who finished the season 28-1, also outscored six opponents by a 64-3 margin from the start of the Region I tournament and banged out 11 hits.
Adam Posey went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Chad Pinder added three hits to cap a spectacular postseason by going 3-for-5 at the plate. The Islanders become the first team in the Bay Rivers Districts 20-year history to win consecutive titles in one of the big-three boys sports: football basketball and baseball.
