Emerson Etem comes from a place where ice is something of an anomaly.  He's from Long Beach, California.  You won't find too many players born and raised in southern California making it in the pros.

Apparently he got the sports gene.  His mother was on the US Olympic rowing team and has been a strong influence on his development.

Etem was the Anaheim Ducks first round pick in the 2010 draft and has spent over 60 games in the NHL with 9 regular season goals.  He back in the AHL with the Admirals to work on the other parts of his game besides offense.  Don't expect him to be here too much longer.
