-Start the party late. This will save on the cost of food and beverages
as well as exhausting preparation time.
-Consider inviting guests to a midnight breakfast. Start the party at
midnight with a champagne toast, then serve coffee and a simple
breakfast menu.
-Find an inexpensive ethnic restaurant and ask them to prepare a typical
New Year's meal from their culture. Instead of eating in a restaurant,
ask for take out and serve it at home with your own decorations and
beverages.
-Create a great centerpiece by filling a glass bowl with left over
Christmas tinsel then stuff with party favors like horns and hats or
even a champagne bottle.
-Make the whole house look festive without spending a lot for
decorations. Cut out star shapes from cardboard and decorate them with
glitter then hang them from the ceiling with string or ribbon.
-Save on champagne by serving only one glass to toast the new year.
Serve an inexpensive punch for the rest of the evening.
-Finish off the party with a traditional Victorian "good riddance"
celebration. Just have everyone write their regrets from the past year
and toss them into the fireplace. Everyone toasts the flame with "good
riddance."
So there you have it, a few Better Living tips for a better new year.
