Halloween
04:01 PM EST on Thursday, October 30, 2003
--Decorated masks can make even the simplest of costumes look terrific.
Just glue pompoms, feathers or any trim to a simple plastic half mask
and it will look like you worked on it for a week.
--Black and orange paper chains say instant Halloween and it’s simple
enough for the kids to work on it on their own. Drape it with a spider
web and your set.
--Plastic grocery bags and extra white plastic lids make perfect ghost
decorations. Cut the handles off of the bags and then cut off the front
portion of the bag with printing. (You will need 2 bags per ghost).
Then glue a white pipe cleaner to the top part of the bag. Cut the bag
into 1 to 2 inch strips just short of the pipe cleaner. Make two pieces
like this. Then glue the edge of the bag with the pipe cleaner into the
ridge in the plastic lid around about half of the lid. Glue the other
bag/pipe cleaner around the other half of the lid. Glue a pipe cleaner
loop to the lid to hang. Draw a ghost face onto the lid with magic
markers.
--Halloween coasters made from craft foam take minutes to make. Use
cardboard templates or large cookie cutters for the shape and then
decorate them with waterproof paint.
--If you don’t have time to carve a pumpkin, that’s ok. You can make a
Jack-o-lantern candle. Just hot glue craft foam shapes to the candle and
then light.
--You still have time to create this unique candy bowl. Decoupage
(Use “Mod Podge or a solution of glue and water) your favorite candy
wrappers to a glass or plastic bowl. Make sure they are glued down flat
and let dry thoroughly before filling. Waxier papers like Tootsie Rolls
and starbursts work best.
--Giant spiders made from dark trash bags are a spooktacular lawn
decoration. All you need are dark trash bags, tape and construction
paper. Stuff one trash bag with newspaper and tape shut. Then take 4
trashbags and cut each down the middle on the long side of the bag.
Tape the cut edge together and stuff each leg with newspaper.
--Twist the “leg” after it is about half way full and tape, then keep
fill the other part of the leg and tape shut. Tape legs to body and
make eyes out of craft foam or construction paper. When Halloween is
over just toss in the trash!
There you have it - a few ideas to make Halloween a real scream.
