Save time each day by pre-packing. Use zip-top bags to pack a weeks
worth of individual portions of things like cookies and carrot sticks.
Then drop a bag in each day.
Thermos jars are great for both cool and hot foods. Make sure the
contents stay hot. Rinse the thermos with very hot water before adding
the food. To keep things cool, chill them in the refrigerator before
adding drinks.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a favorite, but they can get
soggy by lunchtime. You can prevent this by spreading a little peanut
butter on each piece of bread. Then add the jelly to the middle.
To keep lunchtime fun for younger children, cut sandwiches into shapes
like diamonds or triangles. You can even use a cookie cutter for holiday
shapes.
Think beyond sandwiches and make wraps or roll ups with tortillas. You
can also make a ham and cheese dip. Cut thick slices of ham into strips,
then add cheese sticks and pack in a dipping sauce in a small container.
Pre-freeze containers of juice or water. This will help keep lunches
cool, but it will thaw out in time for kids to drink them for lunch.
Remember to keep things fun. Include a sticker or a note or use a
creative idea for packaging up cookies or desserts.
So there you have it - a few tips to make lunch time fun time!
