Back to school
01:24 AM EDT on Thursday, September 2, 2004
--An organized morning really begins the night before. Lay out kids
clothes the night before to save time getting dressed.
--Make sure kids get to bed early. Have strict bedtimes, because it's
easier for children to cooperate when they're well rested.
--To get kids out of bed on time, put a treat by the alarm clock. The
first one up gets a sweet reward.
--Set up a color coding system to make the morning routine smoother. Buy
hair brushes, toothbrushes, towels, and anything else you normally use
in a separate color for each child.
--If you really want to simplify, buy socks in one color. You'll never
have to spend extra time finding lost mates.
--Put a timer in the bathroom to keep kids from dawdling.
--Put cubbies by the door to hold essentials for school. Make this the
designated place for books, Homework, special projects and anything else
that's easy to forget.
--Keep important phone numbers in a rolodex next to the phone, and a
list of emergency numbers posted nearby on the wall.
--Don't let school papers pile up. Organize your child's best work in a
three-ring binder.
--Make and freeze sandwiches a day ahead. By the time lunch rolls
around, they will have defrosted but won't be soggy.
So there you have it, a few ways to make the school year a little
smoother.
