A hair dryer set on cool will remove dust from silk flowers.

--To remove light dust from most silk arrangements, use a hair dryer set on cool to blow dust away.

--An inexpensive feather duster is another perfect tool for cleaning smaller, delicate arrangements.

--To clean loose silk flowers, place a few in a paper bag with about two tablespoons of salt, then shake vigorously. The salt will remove the dust.

Salt will also help clean your silk flowers.

--Or you use a handful of cornmeal in a paper bag to clean flowers that have a light grease build up. The cornmeal will remove the dust and absorb the grease.

--If you’re cleaning an arrangement, remove only one flower at a time and clean it. Place it back in the arrangement before you remove another one. That will help to keep everything in place.

--Silk flowers that are not too delicate can be cleaned in the dryer. Just place them in the dryer with a dryer sheet for about one minute on low. Make sure not to use heat because it will damage the glue.

With a little care, silk flowers will look good for years.

--Most silk plants can be sprayed clean with water but you have to be careful to protect the base. Some contain paper filler or other materials that are not water safe. Use a hose or kitchen sprayer and try to keep the base dry. Check a small area to make sure it’s color safe.

--If the plant is small you can fill a spray bottle with water and spray it clean that way. Place a towel underneath to keep everything else dry.

--Try to clean plants on a sunny day so they can be placed outside to dry.

--Color safe silk flowers can be washed clean in warm water with a little dish detergent. Just swish the flowers and rinse. Blot them well with a paper towel and place them upright to dry.

--Hairspray works wonders on silk flowers. A quick spray and flowers will look clean and the colors will be vibrant.

So try these few tips to keep silk flowers looking as beautiful as the day you bought them.
