Towel care
01:51 AM EDT on Thursday, July 29, 2004
--Don’t dry towels completely in the dryer because over drying can
weaken fibers. Take them out when they are just slightly damp.
--A cup of vinegar added to the rinse water will help to control lint. I
t will also help to keep your towels smelling fresh.
--Don’t wash too many towels at once. When the washer is over stuffed,
towels can’t agitate properly and there won’t be enough water to rinse
away the lint.
--Separate light and dark colored towels. Some bright and deep colors
can bleed even after several washings.
--Don’t wash towels with other laundry because even older towels can
coat other fabrics with a fine layer of lint. If you must wash them
together, turn the garment inside out.
--Bleach can weaken fibers, which will cause your towels to wear out a
lot faster. Use it only when absolutely necessary.
--Fabric softener will cause towels to be less absorbent. At the most,
use it every other washing.
--Don’t put wet towels in the hamper because mold and mildew will
develop, which can be difficult to remove.
--To keep towels smelling fresh while in the linen closet, slip a fabric
softner sheet between each towel.
So try these few better living tips to get the most life out of your
towels.
