--Fix any leaks. Possibly the greatest water waster is a silent toilet
leak. An average leak can waste ten gallons of water per hour. You could
save 240 gallons every day.
--Finding a leak is simple. Put a few drops of food coloring in your
toilet tank and wait ten minutes without flushing. If it shows up in the
bowl, there’s a leak.
--Save six gallons by flushing only when necessary. Don’t use your
toilet to dispose of tissues or cigarette butts.
--Save ten gallons by shaving two minutes off your shower time. Every
minute you’re in the shower, five gallons of water goes down the drain.
--Shave with a basin of water rather than a running stream and you’ll
increase your water savings by three more gallons.
--Use a glass of water to brush your teeth then rinse your brush in the
glass when you’re through. Don't let the water run. You’ll save about
two gallons.
--Save 15 gallons by running your dishwasher only when it’s full.
--Sweep your driveway instead of using a hose and save up to eight
gallons every time you clean.
All these tips add up to a savings of hundreds of gallons of water
every day and you’re not only saving money, you’re also helping to save
the environment.
