Low carb party snacks
09:49 AM EST on Friday, February 27, 2004
-What’s a party without chips and dip? Here’s how to serve them the low
carb way. Create parmesan chips from shredded parmesan cheese. Just
sprinkle cheese in a large circle and cook until crispy in a non-stick
pan. Remove from heat while still in the pan and let cool before gently
removing. Continue to cool the cheese on a plate covered with a paper
towel. After the cheese crisps up, cut into chips.
-You can use the same technique to create your own crispy tortilla chips
by using shredded cheddar cheese. They’re delicious and low carb when
served with salsa.
-Most olives have very few carbs and are elegant enough for a
sophisticated cocktail party. Try serving a selection of olives along
with a glass of low carb wine. White wine has few carbs than red.
-Guests will love bacon cheese balls and won’t believe they’re low carb.
Better Living Bacon Cheese Balls
1 pound bacon, fried and crumbled
8 ounce block of full fat cream cheese, softened
8 ounces (about 2 cups) shredded full fat cheddar cheese
¼ tsp. onion powder
¼ tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
chopped nuts
Fry bacon and crumble, set aside. Mix together all ingredients except
nuts. Roll mixture into balls about 1 inch in diameter, roll in chopped
nuts and chill.
-Pork rinds are crispy, crunchy and very low carb. They’re perfect
served with a quick ranch dip.
Quick Ranch Dip
8 ounce carton sour cream
1 packet dressing mix
½ cup green onions, chopped
¼ cup bacon bits
To make the dip combine sour cream, chopped green onions, Ranch flavored
salad dressing mix, and real bacon bits. You can also serve this with
celery sticks.
-Buffalo wings are a party must and are very low carb. Just fry or bake
wings in the oven. While they’re still hot, toss them in a blend of
Tabasco, oil, cayenne, oregano and paprika.
Better Living Hot Wings
2 pounds chicken wings cut up, discard wing tips
2 T. canola oil
1/4 cup hot sauce
1 tsp. paprika
cayenne pepper (optional)
1 tsp. oregano
Deep fry wings or bake them on a baking sheet in a 350 degree oven for
about 45 minutes.
Combine remaining ingredients in a bowl and remove wings from the oven
and toss in the sauce while still hot. (NOTE: These wings are spicy
adjust seasonings to taste).
-Don’t forget your sweet tooth. Chocolate covered strawberries are
simple to make from low carb sugar free chocolate. Just melt a few bars
in a double boiler, add about a dash of canola oil if chocolate is too
thick and dip the berries. Lay them out on a baking sheet covered with
either waxed or parchment paper. Serve within 24 hours or berries will
begin to sweat and the chocolate coating will pull away.
So save time and save carbs with these few Better Living low carb
tips.
