Last minute Valentine's ideas
04:48 PM EST on Thursday, February 12, 2004
-A Valentine’s frame is quick, easy, and makes a perfect gift for the
big day. Use hot glue to secure candy conversation hearts around an
inexpensive frame. Then spray with a sealant to protect.
-Give your Valentine a jar of elegant bath salts that you make yourself.
Just blend together Epsom salts, food coloring and a bit of perfume.
Put in a pretty jar and top it off with a beautiful ribbon.
-You can even make your own heart shaped soaps to go along with it. Cut
a bar of pure glycerin soap into pieces and microwave in a cup for a few
seconds, Pour into heart shaped molds and cool.
-Fingerprint hearts are a cute way to decorate cards, bags, or wrapping
paper. Just coat your finger on a stamp pad and press to create heart
shapes.
-Jewelry is always a good idea. Make these dough heart pins for your
favorite Valentine. Mix a few simple ingredients (recipe follows),
shape into hearts and push a pin into the back.
-Nothing says I love you like a giant kiss, especially when it’s
made from crispy cereal treats. Fill a large funnel with treats, cool,
and wrap in aluminum foil. Don’t forget to include a message on a
ribbon tag.
-What could be better than candy conversation heart cookies? Decorate
simple sugar cookies with pastel frostings and include a special
sentiment for your Valentine.
Homemade Heart Dough
1 cup flour
¼ cup salt
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup water
food coloring
Combine first five ingredients over medium heat in a large saucepan.
Stir until blended and add food coloring. Remove from heat and cool
slightly. Knead until smooth. Roll out with rolling pin and cut shapes
with cookie cutters. Push pin backs into soft dough. Cool and air-dry.
When dough dries it will have a “chalky” appearance. Use can use paint
pens to touch them up.
So there you have it, a few inexpensive Valentine’s ideas that come
straight from the heart.
