Germ-free houses
04:43 PM EST on Thursday, February 5, 2004
-Never forget to wash your hands for a full 20 seconds with soap and
water before eating and preparing food. Nothing does more to protect
you from common germs.
-Make sure you keep plenty of paper towels handy for drying. Damp
towels can be loaded with germs, which will be transferred to your hands.
-Kitchen sponges are a source of nasty germs. Try to keep extras on
hand and toss dirty ones into the washer each time you do a load of
laundry.
-Zap germs by placing your sponge in the microwave on high for a minute
or two before you use it to clean kitchen surfaces.
-Wash your hands before emptying the dishwasher. Always place
silverware upside down in the cleaning basket so that you only touch the
handles when you remove items.
-Have several tooth brushes and run them in the dishwasher on the
sterilizing cycle. Or just soak them in boiling water to kill germs.
Now while you can't avoid germs altogether, these few simple tips
will help keep millions of them at bay.
