A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for central parts of Virginia and North Carolina - including Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton counties in North Carolina.

The 13News Now Weather Authority is tracking a line of strong storms that will eventually make its way to Hampton Roads.

Heavy rain is expected in the Hampton Roads metro areas late Thursday into early Friday morning.

We will continue to monitor the potential for severe weather late tonight, especially in areas close to I-95.

A beautiful weekend is in store behind the storms with highs in the low 70s for the weekend.
