NEWPORT NEWS -- A 22-year-old man was found dead in Newport News and now his roommate has been charged.

The victim is Khylief Thorpe.

Newport News police spokesperson Holly McPherson says police went to a motel to check on the welfare of a man named Ian Altman.  He was found unconscious and taken to the hospital.

During the investigation, police got word of a possible homicide victim.  About 10:00 Sunday morning, Thorpe was found dead on the living room floor of his apartment in the 300 block of 72nd Street.  He had been shot.

McPherson said an argument between the two led to the shooting.

Warrants will be issued for Altman once he is released from the hospital.  He is charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
