NORFOLK -- Experts tell 13 News they've noticed a sharp increase in women wanting to carry guns to stay protected.
The number of concealed weapons permits in Virginia continue to rise and gun experts say the numbers translate to more women wanting to pack heat.
"They just want that comfort level knowing they can defend themselves with a fire arm if they should be attacked," Gun Safety Instructor Jim McDonnell said.
He says lately, more of his students signing up are women. "A small percentage come because they want to go out with husband or their boyfriends and they are not comfortable learning from their husband or boyfriends," he said.
