VIRGINIA BEACH - It's the first day back since three Green Run High School students died in a crash Friday afternoon.

Administrators are taking steps to help students cope with the sudden deaths of classmates Matthew Kirkbride, 18; Adam Sherman, 17; and Joseph Jenkins, 17.

Police say Kirkbridge was speeding on Salem Road and lost control on the wet pavement. His VW crossed the center lane and into oncoming traffic. A Chevrolet mini-van smashed into it.

The teens were on their way home from classes at the Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center.

Police say all three were wearing seat belts, but the collision was so severe that they were killed by the impact.

As news of their deaths spread, students came by the school bringing flowers and signs remembering their friends and classmates.

Students say everyone knew the young men and this kind of sudden loss will be felt not only by the senior class but throughout the school.

"I think tomorrow is just going to be a really quiet day, just..I think everybody's just going to be sad and try to remember them," said Caroline Hutto, a Green Run student.

Police said no charges are pending against the driver of the Chevrolet van.

The crash remains under investigation.
