A school merger plan is under fire – this time from the Va. Beach City
Council.
Members unanimously voted no to the consolidation of Va. Beach Middle
and Kemps Landing Magnet schools.
The school district is using eminent domain to condemn nine homes in the
way of the construction plans.
Councilman Richard Maddox says he’s been bombarded with complaints.
“Some of the land required is city land and the council would have to
transfer that land. If anything, tonight’s vote would give the school
board a flavor of how we feel about that.”
The school board has already voted twice affirming this plan.
