VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Police arrested a man in a grocery store parking lot after they say he put nude pictures of himself near people's cars.

From Va. Beach Police

Robert Lewis, suspect

According to police, a man and his young daughter came out of a Harris Teeter at the Oceanfront Saturday to find the nude photographs on his car.

The suspect, Robert B. Lewis, was allegedly in the same parking lot, sitting drunk in his vehicle, according to police.

Lewis told 13News he is a victim of circumstance and that the pictures were never meant for grocery shoppers' eyes.

"A lot of couples do that, you know, they will take pictures of each other," said Lewis, explaining that the pictures were mementos from a relationship.

Lewis said the pictures were in his car. He said the vehicle broke down and when he opened the doors and trunk, the wind scattered the images in the parking lot.

As he picked them up, Lewis said a customer with his daughter came up to him.

"He thought I stole something from her. He thought that maybe his family had, you know, lost something and I picked it up."

Lewis said he showed the man the picture,"and he got really mad, and he started screaming and saying that I was a pervert."

"If I get put in jail for some stupid stuff like this, there's a good chance that I'll lose my job, I'll lose my apartment, lose everything I got," said Lewis.

Linda Boehme often shops at the grocery store, many times with her children in tow.

"I have a two and a half year old that's driving me bonkers," she said. "Usually, I'm worried about them putting stickers on the car, nevermind something that shouldn't be seen, for sure."

Police arrested 52-year-old Lewis, who lives in the 2600 block Baltic Avenue. He lives less than a block from the Harris Teeter. Neighbors told us off-camera he "creeped them out" and has done this in the parking lot before.

A Harris Teeter spokeswoman would not confirm that claim but said they are working closely with law enforcement to keep everyone safe.

Lewis is scheduled to appear in court in April.
