SUFFOLK -- A Suffolk couple faces charges after their 11-month-old child was found dead in their home and two other children were removed because unsanitary living conditions, police say.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results that could be back later today.
Linwood Jones Jr., 24, and Shawntay D. Jones, 25, are in jail on three counts of felony abuse and neglect of children.
Authorities were called to their 3rd Avenue home around 3:25 p.m. Monday after being told the little girl was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the home.
Police say they interviewed the couple, who said they’d last checked on the baby at 7:00 a.m.
The other children, ages 3 and 4, were taken by Child Protective Services and are now with their grandmother, according to an uncle.
He also says the family had no idea the couple was struggling and asked the public to be slow to judge.
A next door neighbor told 13News the children appeared to be well cared for.
