Does it Work: Samurai Shark
04:48 PM EST on Tuesday, November 25, 2008
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Ryan Bielat loves to cook, especially with fresh foods. So, it’s important for him to have a sharp knife.
He usually does it with a sharpening rod, but the Samurai Shark claims to sharpen every blade with ease.
The instructions directed Bielat to put the shark on the counter and pull the knife up and down in a vertical motion.
It was easy to do, but the sharpening sound was a bit unpleasant.
After sharpening, Bielat tried it to slice a tomato.
"This tomato is a little bit softer and it's having no problem cutting right through it," he notes.
Samurai Shark can sharpen serrated knives, too; the sharpening instructions are a little different.
"You take it at an angle and work it right down each one of the serrated areas," Bielat says.
After trying Samurai Shark on two different knives, Bielat wasn’t ready to give up his sharpening rod, but he had positive things to say about Samurai Shark.
"Yes it works very well. You have to apply some pressure to it. It sharpens both sides of the knife at a time, which I like, and it's hard to find a mechanism that sharpens serrated blades, which I like too."
Samurai Shark costs $9.99.
