SUFFOLK – With 20 of 23 precincts report, incumbent mayor Linda Johnson is headed to another term.

It’s the first time Suffolk residents have elected their mayor instead of the mayor being chosen within the ranks of elected council members.

Six candidates are running, but the top three vote getters, as of 9:00 p.m., are Johnson with 9930 votes; Dwight Nixon with 6246 votes and Tom Powell with 4,622.
