Raids in Suffolk, Gates County target stolen guns

05:34 PM EDT on Thursday, October 30, 2008

Reported by: Lindsey Roberts

GATES COUNTY, NC --  An investigation into a stolen gun operation is far from complete.

Officers raided four homes Wednesday night, looking for more than 50 guns, most of them stolen.

They found all but 15.

Investigators say the guns, along with jewelry and other items, were taken from homes over several months.

"I don't even get to my door, just hear ‘boom.’ No warning, didn't knock on the door, just knocked the door down and have the gun on me," said Greta Burke, whose home was one searched by investigators looking for stolen weapons, jewelry and gang paraphernalia.

She says no one in her family has any gang connection.

A search warrant indicates investigators believe someone inside was connected to the sale of illegal guns.

"We have information that guns were traded and sold back and forth between individuals here. Through information from our informants, we know several of the guns came to this location," said Sheriff Ed Webb.

Sheriff Webb says those guns were among those taken in nearly two dozen home robberies.

She says the serial numbers were altered so the guns could be sold.

Burke’s son, Joshua, Robert Paris and Robert Johnson were arrested at another home, where police say they recovered cocaine and a sawed off shotgun.

Burke says he son was there but isn’t connected to the crime.

While the operation ran in Gates County, a similar one was taking place in Suffolk.

Authorities arrested Anton Harrison, Rashawn Goodman and Dominique Wilkins, all from Gates Co., for allegedly trying to sell stolen guns to undercover officers.

Investigators say they expect more arrests in the coming days.
