NEW KENT CO. – For the first time in more than a decade, fire has claimed the life of a New Kent resident.
Two people were trapped when fire swept through the home on Farmers Drive Friday night.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and minimal fire in the 60 ft. by 100 ft. wood and metal structure.
Deborah Ann Hulbert, 50, and Milton “Butch” Earl Armandt, 61, were pulled from the home, but he died at the scene. Hulbert remains in critical condition at MCV Hospital in Richmond.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Meantime, New Kent Fire-Rescue crews are going door-to-door to make smoke detector checks in Eltham.
