RICHMOND (AP) -- Virginia elections officials say fliers are making the rounds in several Hampton Roads localities attempting to confuse voters.

The fliers advise Republicans to vote on one day and Democrats on another.

Election Day for everyone is Nov. 4.

The bogus advisory features the logo of the State Board of Elections and states the two voting dates are intended to ease the load on elections officials.

State police are looking into the source of the fliers.

The fliers have been found in the downtown Newport News and Hampton areas, according to Rep. Bobby Scott (D-3rd District).

"This attempt to mislead Virginia voters, is both disappointing and unacceptable,” Congressman Bobby Scott said. “There is too much at stake for all Virginians – regardless of party affiliation – for these tactics to go unchecked.”

“This is not a partisan issue – it’s about protecting our democratic process and ensuring that the record number of new restraints and longtime voters have an opportunity to influence the future course of this nation. I call on Democrats, Republicans and election officials to disavow these tactics and take action to ensure that the electoral process is fair and that voters know the national election is held on November 4th. ”

State Elections officials said Tuesday the fliers have appeared in Va. Beach and Norfolk as well.
