VIRGINIA BEACH -- A North Carolina man pleaded guilty Monday to carnal knowledge after bringing a 13-year-old girl to Va. Beach for sex.

Police say Shawn Engle, 31, of Gates County, met the South Carolina teen on MySpace and, after a week of emails, drove to pick her up on August 30, 2008.

Soon after, her parents reported her missing.

The teen was located at Engle’s mother’s home in North Carolina on September 15 and authorities issued a kidnapping warrant.

On October 24, a Va. Beach officer found his vehicle in the driveway of a home on Westgrove Road, where an acquaintance lived.

While awaiting extradition to South Carolina for kidnapping, police say they learned Engle and the girl had consensual sex at least twice.

Engle now faces abduction with intent to defile and carnal knowledge in Va. Beach.

He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $750,000 fine at sentencing on November 30, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
