Kaine: Conserve energy before winter comes
08:16 AM EDT on Wednesday, October 8, 2008
RICHMOND (AP) -- Governor Timothy Kaine is encouraging Virginians to conserve energy amid news that winter fuel bills are expected to spike.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration said Tuesday that fuel bills in the Mid-Atlantic region will increase 11 percent to 30 percent, or $150 to $450, depending on the fuel type.
Kaine encouraged residents to conserve energy now to reduce electric and other fuel bills. He suggested enrolling in a level monthly payment plan with the electric company.
Kaine also recommended household improvements like making sure leaks are sealed, air filters are replaced and heating and cooling equipment is properly maintained.
