GOP faithful can't wait for McCain-Palin visit

VIRGINIA BEACH – It’s one of the hottest tickets going and it’s not for a rock concert, although some supporter say Gov. Sarah Palin's a rock star.

At several McCain-Palin headquarters Tuesday, there was a steady stream of people getting tickets for the GOP ticket’s appearance in Va. Beach next Monday.

It will be Sen. John McCain’s first public visit to Hampton Roads since February and the first for the Alaska governor.

Dan Fowler was so excited he got 50 tickets.

"I think it's very important. I think the local public needs to get the opportunity to see history in the making,” he said after getting the bundle from the office on Va. Beach Blvd.

Republicans hope this visit will help put Virginia in the GOP column in November.

"I think it’s great that they’re coming. Yeah, that’s why I’m here so early in the morning,” said Bonnie Proutt, who waited in line for the office to open at 9:00 a.m. “I think they’re more support than people know.”

With Virginia’s 13 electoral college votes at stake, the Commonwealth is considered cruicial for either ticket’s victory.

Disabled veteran Tom Bohling, for one, hopes it’s McCain.

'We need somebody to get behind us because the Congress, they’re all mouth and they haven’t done anything and we need somebody who’s going to come behind us and give us what we deserve,” he stated.

The rally is Monday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on 19th Street. Doors open at 8:00 a.m.; the rally begins at 10:00 a.m.
