Remains identified as those of missing Norfolk mother of five

VIRGINIA BEACH – Police say the remains of a Norfolk woman, missing since February 2, were those found in the woods last week.
Chantel G. Bryant, 35, of the 2900 block of Kimball Terrace in Norfolk, was a mother of five. She disappeared from her Kimball Terrace home that night and wasn't seen again.
"There was no way that she was still alive and she left her kids," said her sister Jeanette Prophyl. "Those two things did not go together, so unless she was being held against her will, there was no chance that she was still alive."
Prophyl got a sinking feeling when police initially identified the remains as those of a black woman.
Then, the police confirmed the worst.
Now, the family is looking for justice.
"As the police try to do their job, we are doing to do our job and help them any way we can to help them prosecute this case," she added.
A memorial service for Bryant is set for next week.
According to police records, someone else staying at her apartment noticed Bryant was gone in the early morning hours of February 2. Bryant's car and keys were still at the apartment, but her cell phone was gone.
A check with relatives turned up nothing.
Since that time, residents in the Chesterfield Heights area had often wondered what happened to their missing neighbor.
"It's sad, it's sad to me, you know, knowing that something like that happened to her like that when I know she was a good person," said Wanda Rountree, a neighbor to Bryant.
Her remains were found by a landscaping crew last Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area on Studio Drive.
Additional tests are being done to determine how Bryant died.
