Judge orders Vick dog to be euthanized
11:20 AM EDT on Tuesday, October 2, 2007
One of the 49 dogs found in Michael Vick’s backyard will be euthanized, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ordered.
His decision comes after an ASPCA evaluation showed the one animal, identified as #2621, was aggressive to the point the evaluation couldn't be completed and it has a history of biting people.
The other 48 canines may be safe enough to place in the community with strict conditions, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced in court filings Monday.
Hudson has yet to rule on what should happen to those dogs, which remain in animal shelters in Hampton Roads and central Virginia.
In all, 53 dogs were seized from Vick's Surry County property in April. 49 were still in federal government custody as of Monday.
The evaluations were videotaped so that the team of evaluators could review them as needed.
An ASPCA spokesperson said Tuesday that the videos are not available for release at this time.
