Florida man completes NC's Mountains-to-Sea trail

JOCKEY'S RIDGE STATE PARK, N.C. (AP) -- A Florida man has completed walking North Carolina's still incomplete, 930-mile, Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
Scot Ward arrived at Jockey's Ridge State Park on Sunday, completing a trek that began May 23 at Clingman's Dome in the Smoky Mountains.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Ward said the last day was the best since he started.
Ward dodged cars and tropical storms, suffered dehydration and followed a trail that is sparsely marked and not yet complete.
Ward says he knew the trail was new and wanted to be among the first to hike it.
He hopes to write a guidebook for the trail, saying the official guidebook is too heavy to carry.
Ward says he plans to mark possible camping spots, water sources along the trail and businesses where hikers can buy supplies.
