A dog that visited Mt. Trashmore in Va. Beach in mid-September has Parvo, a virus that’s easily spread among animals.
The dog was at the park on Saturday, September 15 and the dog was diagnosed earlier this week.
"The virus can stay in the environment for a long time,” said veterinarian Dr. Chris Imrich. “It's quite stable."
The Mt. Trashmore Park remains open; however, owners whose dogs recently visited Mount Trashmore Park, specifically on the Kid’s Cove playground side of the mountain, are encouraged to contact their veterinarian if their dogs showing signs of the virus.
The city's had the warning on their website since just after 9:00 a.m. Dr. Imrich says most vaccinated dogs should be ok, but this is not something to take lightly.
"It is very contagious that the big concern,” said Imrich.
The Dog Park at Red Wing Park was closed this week for cleaning after a dog that visited the park contracted Parvo.
The park is being cleaned daily and was expected to reopen next Monday.
