CHESAPEAKE – A Chesapeake man is accused of killing his dog with a sword.

Robert A. Young, Jr., 46, is charged with felony animal cruelty.

Investigators say witnesses saw Young carrying a sword outside on Sunday evening and then saw him take the pit bull into his Darley Lane mobile home.

"He was rubbing a sword on his dog's back," said neighbor Allen Bundy. "The dog was just shaking."

About 15 minutes later, police say he put the dog’s body in the trash.

"I said Nah, ah. So I walked up to the trash can and pulled that white bag up and the dog was in the trash can," Bundy added.

"I was like you've got to be kidding me. I'm living beside a psycho," stated Chris Taylor.

Police say Young appeared intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

"He walked into the kitchen and went to use the bathroom and he couldn't hardly stand," said neighbor Denise Stephens.

People in the area say Young and his wife moved in about a month ago and that his wife was the person who usually took care of the dog.

Taylor is due in court Tuesday.
