NORFOLK – A woman and her boyfriend are charged in the death of her little girl.

Jathiya Wooden, 26, and Troy Edwards, 29, were arraigned Tuesday in Norfolk Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.

They were arrested Monday, a day after reporting four-year-old Tamera was missing.

Police searched Wooden’s apartment on E. Little Creek Road and found the girl’s body.

The child died as a result of food and water deprivation, according to the medical examiner's office.

The couple is in jail on charges of murder and felony child neglect.

Wooden was assigned a court appointed attorney; Edwards said he would be retaining an attorney, stated Amanda Howie, spokeswoman for the Commonwealth’s Attorney office.   

Their preliminary hearings are set for November 25.
