NORFOLK -- The Navy is already making plans in advance of Tropical Storm Gustav expected landfall in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
At the Naval Maritime Forecast Center aboard Naval Station Norfolk, meteorologists are tracking the storm around the clock.
They will give Navy decision-makers with storm information so they can make decisions about asset-protection and ship movements.
In 2005, the Navy played a huge role in the recovery effort following Hurricane Katrina. USS Iwo Jima and other ships provided humanitarian relief and conducted search and rescue operations.
