11 arrested in Newport News counterfeit items investigation

NEWPORT NEWS – 11 people have been arrested so far in a raid on shops believed to be selling counterfeit merchandise, including clothing, CDs and videos.
Agents worked into the early morning Thursday removing bags of items from eight businesses inside Peddler's Village Mini Mall on Jefferson Avenue.
The targeted businesses inside were A-1 Fashions, Rizzo’s Fashions, A+ Fashions, and unnamed business, Shin US Fashion, Fashion New Planet and JV Fashion, Tepper said.
"As of 1:30 a.m. Thursday, they'd confiscated $10,000 in cash and merchandise worth close to $2 million," Newport News Police spokeswoman Holly Tepper told WVEC.com.
Authorities on scene were Newport News Police, Hampton Police, Va. State Police, the US Postal Inspector, the Newport News Fire Marshal’s office, Newport News Codes and Compliance, the Recording Industry of America and Blazer Investigations, which represents different trademarks like Nike. Their job is to identify counterfeit merchandise, Tepper noted.
Tepper says 10 face one count each of infringement, a class 6 felony.
A customer, Sam Sharpe of Newport news, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Simple Assault, Tepper noted.
"There will be additional arrests made in the future for those business owners that were not present during the raid," she said.CHARGED WITH INFRINGEMENT:
