Thieves skim credit/debit card at gas pumps

WILLIAMSBURG – When you pay at the pump, your credit or debit card could be at risk.
"We always have an attendant on hand that's looking out here. If we see a van pull up or someone we don't recognize, we are going to address that person, ‘hi, can we help you,’” explains Tony Faulkcon, who manages a Shell gas station. \
By adding small electronic copying devices, thieves can record information from every card that passes.
Because of a problem at out-of-state stores, WAWA has added even more security for credit and debit card users.
Employees check every pump, inside and out, at least three times a day, for the skimming devices.
Customer Alexis Hawkins-Smith knows it’s smart to watch incoming bills and be alert.
"Computers and technology, they can get a lot of information. Now we have to worry about getting gas," she noted.
The U.S. Secret Service says gas pumps are easy to access and easily become electronic cash registers.
