Beach police warn of scheme asking elderly to help their grandkids
04:11 PM EDT on Thursday, August 7, 2008
VIRGINIA BEACH – A phone scheme is targeting the elderly.
Police say two residents report getting calls from people pretending to be their grandchildren. They say they’ve been arrested in Canada and need money.
Once money is wired, they’re out of luck. Authorities say they can’t recover money or seek prosecution with suspects in another country.
If you get a similar call, you should contact the police.
