Hampton man faces more surgery after Friday shooting

HAMPTON -- An elderly Hampton man underwent another surgery Monday after being shot Friday in his Custer Court home.
Family members say 75-year-old Ben O'Dell is heavily sedated as doctors try to save his life.
Michael Pearson, who lives across the street, heard gunfire and ran to help. He says O'Dell just kept saying, "I can't believe they shot me. I can't believe they shot me."
Police were back at the scene Monday gathering evidence but have not released information about a possible motive.
Neighbors believe the suspects knew O'Dell lived alone and was gone most afternoons. They think the suspects were burglarizing the home when O'Dell came home early.
Police say two men, described as white and in their late teens to early 20s, left in a white, newer model white four-door car driven by a heavy-set woman in her 20s or 30s.
Police aren't calling them suspects at this time, they just want to talk with them.
