01:33 PM EDT on Thursday, July 24, 2008
NEWPORT NEWS – Dozens of new law enforcement officers are in special training.
The Corrections Academy is designed for officers who’ll be working at area jails.
More than 50 recruits from six agencies are just beginning the 10-week course at the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy.
"These instructors are going to be really tough with the p-t, with the physical training. They want to make sure that recruits understand this is not a game. This is serious business," explains Kathleen Cary with the Newport News Sheriff’s Office.
More than half the recruits are from that office.
Graduation day is October 2.
