Copper stolen from AC units at Suffolk school
11:36 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 22, 2008
SUFFOLK -- Copper was stolen from eight of 16 rooftop air conditioning units at a Suffolk elementary school last weekend.
It happened at Florence Bowser Elementary at 4540 Nansemond Parkway.
Suffolk Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw told WVEC.com that new units have been ordered at a cost of $3,800 each.
"It should take two days to remove the damaged units and install the new ones, using a crane," she explained.
Bradshaw says the eight other units are back up and running.
She stressed that there are no summer classes at the school. Cooling works in the administrative area for school officials, she added.
Police are investigating. If you can help, call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
