Norfolk teen sentenced for 2005 murder
12:52 PM EDT on Friday, July 18, 2008
NORFOLK – A 17-year-old found guilty of murder when he was 14 will be in juvenile detention until he’s 21, a circuit court judge ruled at sentencing Friday.
Stacey Montelo Cherry will then serve five years on firearm and accessory charges and then be on probation until age 60, according to Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney spokeswoman Amanda Howie.
Prosecutors said Cherry and Dontae Ebron, then 18, had set up two robberies. Ronald Lee Marcus was shot and killed on May 6, 2005. The other victim, who was robbed a week earlier, survived.
Following those crimes, Cherry and Ebron went to Philadelphia but were arrested.
Ebron was convicted in February and is serving a 30-year sentence, Howie added.
