Norfolk doubles street cleaning efforts
11:12 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 8, 2008
NORFOLK – No Parking signs are coming down across the city of Norfolk this week, but they won’t be down for long.
The city is preparing to double street sweeping, so crews are replacing the signs to correspond with the new schedule.
Just this month, the city began cleaning streets once a month instead of once every other month. A stormwater fee is paying for the increase.
Street cleaning is designed to capture debris and pollutants before they fall into stormwater drains, potentially affecting the city’s fresh water supply.
