Norfolk ready to show off new Town Point Park

NORFOLK --  The 33rd Annual Harborfest Celebration kicks off at noon Friday at the newly-renovated Town Point Park in Norfolk.

It’s been a year of moving and shaking things around on the Elizabeth River waterfront to give it a new look this season.

"It's just fresh it's new it's clean.  You can see the water from wherever you are and that's the star.  The waterfront is the star of the show and I think we've done her justice," said Festevents founder Karen Scherberger.

Two tall ships are in for the celebration -- one from Brazil and one from Uruguay.

Near the ships is a new dancing waters section where the Todd Rosenlieb Dancers will perform Friday at 3:00 p.m.

"I think the look is fantastic.  It's reminiscent of Bryant Park in New York City now. It has a feeling, where the open fields are, there are many options and great places to sit," said Todd Rosenlieb.

The ribbon cutting is Friday at 10:00 a.m.

The WVEC-TV Parade Of Sail begins at noon and signals the start of Harborfest 2009.

New this year are fireworks Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Lee Greenwood will headline the entertainment stage Saturday night, the Fourth of July.
